Before we begin lets talk about some of the basic terms and definitions used in genetics.

DNA: The genetic material used to form the genetic codes in animals.

Gene: This is a portion of the DNA molecule that incodes information to minipulate how animals will look.

Allele: They are gene copies that are different from one another.

Homozygous: This is an animal that has two identical Alleles.

Hetrozygous: This is an animal that has two different Alleles, can also be called a carrier.

Genotype: Is the comination of Alleles of a particular animal.

Phenotype: This is the appearance of a particular genotype.

Wild type: This animal is normal in all aspects of appearance.

Dominant: This is an Allele that masks expression of any other Allele.

Co-Dominant: The two alleles of a gene pair in a heterozygous snake that are both fully expressed visually.

Recessive: This is what will change the phenotype in an animal in the homozygous form. When it's hetrozygous the animal will look normal.

The genetics of Ball Pythons is continually changing. Almost every year, there are several new designer morphs that hit the market. Breeders are always experimenting with new ones and trying to increase the beauty of present morphs. Here are a few examples of the different morphs that are Dominant, Co-Dominant, and Recessive.
